Psyllium Husk: Information
Psyllium husks are the seed casings of the Plantago ovata plant. Psyllium husks are an excellent source of supplemental dietary fiber. In the digestive tract, psyllium husk absorbs water and expands, adding bulk and moisture to the stool.
Health Benefits of Psyllium Husk
Psyllium husk fiber can be used on a daily basis as fiber supplement, and in some cases can be used as a bulk-forming laxative used on a short-term basis. As a soluble fiber, psyllium husk may lower cholesterol as do other soluble fibers like oat bran.
Using Psyllium Husk
Use products as directed. Be sure to drink plenty of water when using psyllium husk supplements. Do not attempt to use fiber supplements as your primary source of dietary fiber.
