MSM: Information
MSM (methyl sulfonyl methane) is an organic sulfur compound naturally occurring in the blood and found in most foods. Sulfur is an important component in proteins, especially those found in the hair, muscles, connective tissue, joints and skin.
MSM's Health Benefits
MSM supplements ensure an adequate supply of the important structural mineral sulfur. MSM may also also alleviate pain and reduce inflammation of musculoskeletal origin such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, chronic back pain, and repetitive-motion injuries. Studies also suggest that MSM may be effective in the reduction of muscle spasms, increasing blood flow and helping to maintain and repair cartilage.
Using MSM
Consult your physician before using an MSM supplement. General recommended dosage varies depending on reason for use; use as directed. Take MSM with food to avoid stomach upset. MSM is available in liquid or capsule form for internal use, and powder, lotion, gel, or cream form for topical use. It may take several weeks before symptoms improve.
Side-effects and Cautions:
May include gastrointestinal discomfort, headache or skin rash. Discontinue use and consult your physician if these side effects occur.
