Reishi Mushroom: Information
Reishi is the Japanese name for the mushroom Ganoderma lucidum. Reishi is one of the most highly regarded natural medicinal compounds in Asia, where it has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for more than 4,000 years. Reishi is in fact one of the oldest substances known to have been used in medicine.
Reishi mushroom is known as ling zhi in Chinese, meaning "herb of great spiritual power" or "mushroom of immortality." Reishi has been the subject of extensive studies, most focusing on immune-system effects in major diseases like prostate cancer. Reishi has recently been added to the American Herbal Pharmacopoeia and Therapeutic Compendium, which attests to its therapeutic value.
Reishi Mushroom's Health Benefits
Ganoderma lucidum is the only known source of a group of biologically active triterpenes, known as ganoderic acids. Ganoderic acids have a molecular structure similar to steroid hormones and may be useful in conditions that relate to unbalanced or unhealthy hormone function. Most users of Reishi supplements seek immune-system support or to increase overall vitality and resistance to disease. Reishi can be used with other immune-enhancing compounds like AHCC, graviola and whey protein.
