Glutathione

What Is Glutathione?

Glutathione is a tripeptide protein, meaning is consists of three amino acids: cysteine, glutamic acid, and glycine. A limited amount of glutathione can be manufactured in the liver and small amounts occur naturally in foods like avocado, grapefruit, strawberries, tomatoes, broccoli, and spinach. People use glutathione supplements to augment the body's natural production.

Glutathione for Antioxidant and Detoxification Support

Glutamine is one of the body's primary antioxidant and detoxification compounds, but its production is limited and declines as we age1 so many people seek to support and maintain glutathione production through the use of supplements. Glutathione supplements may be able to do that by providing all the necessary precursors needed to synthesize new glutathione.

How Much Glutathione Should I Use?

250mg-1500 mg per day is the typical dose range and users make take from one to three doses per day on a short-term or long-term basis. For more intensive liver and detox support, glutathione can be combined with other antioxidants and liver detoxifiers like alpha lipoic acid, n-acetyl-cysteine, and milk thistle. Glutathione is available in capsule, tablet and powder form.

Side-effects and Cautions

Pregnant/nursing women should consult a physician before taking a glutathione supplement.
