Octacosanol is a waxy insoluble substance derived from plant oils. Octacosanol is the main component of policosanol.

Octacosanol's Health Benefits

Policosanol is usually used as part of a cholesterol-management regimen. When octacosanol is used by itself, is usually to increase energy and stamina in a non-stimulating way. Octacosanol is included for example in prenatal formulas for this reason. Studies have suggested that while policosanol may help lower LDL (unhealthy) cholesterol levels, though it is not known if octacosanol has the same effect.

May cause mild dizziness. Those taking the Parkinson’s medication carbidopa-levodopa may experience additional side effects; consult your physician.
