What Is Conjugated Linoleic Acid?

CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) is a variety of fatty acid that's found in small amounts in foods like red meat, milk and cheese. CLA is classified as an omega-6 fatty acid, but it's not one of the essential omega-6 fatty acids. Studies have shown that CLA can contribute to lean body mass and fat loss, which is why CLA has become a popular dietary supplement (1).

What is Tonalin CLA?

At All Star Health, we carry a wide variety of high-performance CLA. Tonalin is one of the trademarked brands of CLA available, and most other CLA supplements use similar formulas. CLA is typically sold in softgels that contain approximately 1000 mg. of sunflower or safflower oil plus CLA mixture that provides 600-800 mg. of CLA in each softgel.

Health Benefits of CLA

CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) is used by people who wish to either increase or preserve lean body mass and decrease body fat. How CLA achieves this is not entirely understood. It may be that it increases the body's sensitivity to insulin, improving metabolism efficiency so fewer unused calories are stored as fat. CLA might affect liver enzymes, changing the balance of fat burning and fat storage enzymes so that fat burning is favored.

CLA is very safe to use and does not affect the central nervous system. It's helpful for anyone trying to get rid of body fat without using fat burners that contain stimulants. CLA won't dramatically reduce body weight, but when used with a healthy diet and exercise, it helps reduce body fat while reserving lean body mass.

How and When Should CLA Be Taken?

For optimal results, take CLA on a consistent daily basis for 8-12 weeks or longer. For effective fat loss, the best dosage is at least 3.4 grams per day, approximately five CLA softgels. This can be taken at once or in separate doses.
