Butterbur (Petasites hybridus) is a plant native to Europe. Butterbur contains compounds that may affect the body's production of compounds that regulate inflammation and immune response.

Butterbur's Health Benefits

Extracts of butterbur plant are used primarily to treat migraine headache1 as well as allergies2 and asthma3. Butterbur may work in a manner similar to antihistamines by blocking the release of pro-inflammatory chemicals during allergic reactions and migraines.

Using Butterbur

Use as directed. Do not use as a medical treatment for any condition unless supervised by a doctor.

Side-effects and Cautions:

Don't use butterbur if you're allergic to ragweed, marigolds, daisies or chrysanthemums. Young children, pregnant or nursing women, or people with liver or kidney disease shouldn't use butterbur.
