Ashwaganda: Information
Ashwaganda, also known as Withania somnifera, is an herb in the nightshade family that has been a part of traditional Indian Ayurvedic medicine for centuries. Often referred to as “Indian Ginseng”, Ashwaganda is used and regarded in much the same way as ginseng – as an adaptogenic herb (one that helps the body adapt to increased physical and/or mental stress).
Health Benefits of Ashwaganda
Ashwaganda is most often used as a general tonic and adaptogenic herb and occasionally as an aphrodisiac, diuretic or brain booster. Studies suggest ashwaganda can lower cortisol levels (a stress marker) and improve energy, sleep and well-being.
