Inositol (a.k.a. phytate) is part of the group of B-vitamins which also includes biotin, folic acid, choline, vitamin B-1, vitamin B-2, vitamin B-3, vitamin B-5, vitamin B-6 and vitamin B-12. Inositol exists as a fiber component in grains and seeds, and is a necessary component in the synthesis of lecithin. Inositol is essential for proper structure and function of all cells. Inositol participates in many biological processes and is especially important for healthy muscle, brain, and nerve function.

Inositol's Health Benefits

In addition to being necessary for good health, inositol has been shown to have other benefits. Inositol has been shown to be very effective in lowering cholesterol levels, and to help protect the liver from the dangerous accumulation of fats. Additionally, inositol may help prevent some cancers. More research is needed.
